Will there be tolls or will there be no tolls? That is the million dollar question. It seems that the 520 tolls are not collecting enough revenue as more than anticipated motorists are using the I-90 instead. Now the DOT wants to toll the I-90 in hopes of recouping the lost revenue. It would be great to help alleviate some of the added congestion, which has occurred as a result of those who have changed their traffic patterns, but what about those who live on Mercer Island? What about those that work on the island as teachers who may not be able to afford the $8/day it would most likely cost to go to and from? And what about the Mercer Island business who rely on customers who travel from other areas? And how would tolling affect the Mercer Island real estate values? If businesses happen to shut down then the quality life might not be as good because area amenities won’t be the same. Lots to think about………
The Mercer Island Reporter has an article discussing when the next meeting will occur. It would be wise to attend and give your opinion(s).
