Mercer Island School Enrollment Growth Expected to Continue

With home prices dropping from the high of 2007, we have seen Mercer Island become much more affordable.  And with that affordability, we have seen many younger families moving onto the island. I know that, on the street that I live, there have been a few elderly owners downsize and younger families moving into those homes.  With the addition of these new families, we are seeing the schools really start to fill up.  In fact, the school district is now looking into the option of adding a fourth elementary school to help alleviate the ever expanding classroom sizes.  I remember just a couple of years ago when there was open enrollment because the classrooms weren’t completely full.  Now, open enrollment exists but not to the same extent as before.

The Mercer Island Reporter has an interesting article on enrollment and where it is heading.
